OBIETTIVI

Architectural Composition Lab

The objective of the course is to provide students with basic knowledge and subsequently a deepening compositional order. The aim is to structure the language and syntax of elements, forms, materials and spaces. Through various exercises on composition and its formal and constructive components, in the final experiment, we get to the formulation of an "architecture" which manifests the relationship between the person and the whole reality.

Observation and Perception Drawings Lab

This course will help students to strengthen their free hand drawing skills, developing eye, hand and mind coordination, fundamentals of architectural drawing, as well as critical mind experience for learning about architecture. The course will help the students to learn to observe the world in a new way and to communicate their impressions by drawing.

History of Art and Architecture Lab

This course is an Italian-oriented survey of the history of architecture, from Classism to Baroque, aimed at introducing both, history of phases and styles and methodologically, examining the contextual issues that give each period a distinctive architecture. It treats monuments and environments, including cities, in the context of the cultural, philosophical and civilization history. It offers an introduction to design principles and analysis. It aims to give the students perspective on the historical achievements where the artistic styles were established for the first time and how they fostered and influenced the subsequent ages, architectural viewpoints and expectations

Technology and Building Materials

The aim of the course is to provide students with basic knowledge about the characteristics, behavior and performance of materials in order to have an overall control of the project, to express the poetic of architecture. The student at the end of the course will have acquired the theoretical tools and developed a critical sense to orient in the different possible technological choices in relation to the architectural requirements, the environment and sustainability of the project.

DETTAGLI AGGIUNTIVI

Architectural Composition LabThe horizon of the architecture is inside the architect itself. Through the discipline of architectural observation, such as grammar of forms, spaces, matter and light, we can express the dimension of our ego. Architecture does not exist in fact, but it exists in the self and Architecture. This relationship between the subject and architecture, is not a philosophical agreement but in fact is purely experiential or existential. Referring to the great protagonists of architecture from Vitruvius, Brunelleschi, Michelangelo and arriving at Louis I. Kahn, Aldo Rossi, Peter Zunthor, Álvaro Siza, in addition to their personal consciousness of the architectural fact, the architecture becomes a poetic construction. An event which is unitarily, functional, constructive and linguistic, in itself as in other disciplines which manifest a universal and singular character that goes through our being and changes it forever. Capturing the cosmic dimension of architecture in each of its details means, to open the architect to the entire universe in order for him/her to operate on the exact field of the construction

Observation and Perception Drawings Lab

This course introduces students to the practice of free hand drawing and subsequently to apply it in the architectural design process. The course will introduce drawing as a way of thinking, as a visual perception, as a means for observation, judgment, storytelling and representation. The process of drawing represented as experience , as a relationship between man and the world.

History of Art and Architecture Lab

Architectural history is a discipline that records and interprets architecture. An exploration that enables us to perceive the existence of historical facts, society and culture, as a real occurrence rather than as an idea. The ability to portray the architect as a person who will give greater importance to a visual phenomenon with more fundamental and cultural inclusive approaches rather then the architect's own taste or style. Our approach is intended to be strongly linked to personal experience through the transmission of a research method. The personal discovery of architectural origins will broaden the self-consciousness of the architect. The architect who is supposed to design and shape a reference context not only through spatial terms but also through the temporal ones. In this investigation the art of architecture from the ancient world until today, mostly emphasizes Classicism, Middle Ages, Renaissance, Mannerism, Baroque and Palladio tradition. This course seeks to foster the generation who will be able to comprehend and make critical judgments on matters and therefore to be ready for more specialized studies in the history of architecture.

Technology and Building Materials

Materials and technology choices have as strong an impact both on the symbolic and expressive value as on the performance of the architecture. The course presents for each material: properties, processing methods, aesthetic significance and performance in relation to the construction choices adopted as guidelines for proper design. We will show examples of historical and contemporary architecture that best enhance the characteristics of each material. Theory lessons are supported by guided visits to places of production of different materials. For each material constructional details will be produced and the object of the graphics exercise
